Sauna - Benefits and Risks

Sauna bathing is well tolerated and adapted by most of the healthy adults and children. This Sauna bathing given at spa centers causes acute, hormonal changes and transient cardiovascular. Sauna bathing is safe for healthy women during uncomplicated pregnancies but it does not influence fertility.

Some studies also suggest that long term sauna bathing may perhaps help low blood pressure in patients with hypertension and also improves the left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with chronic congestive heart failure. But for confirming these findings we need additional data. The sauna helps to improve transients in pulmonary function which may provide some relief to the patients with asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Also the sauna bathing may alleviate pain and improve the joint mobility in patients with rheumatic disease. Though the sauna do not cause drying of the skin, but may even benefit the patients with psoriasis sweating that may increase itching in patients with atropic dermatitis. The contraindication to sauna includes unstable angina pectoris, severe aortic stenosis and recent myocardial infarction. Taking sauna bathing is safe however for most the people with coronary heart disease with the stable angina pectoris or old myocardial infarction. Some times very few acute myocardial infarctions and also the sudden deaths occur in saunas. Need to completely avoid alcohol consumption during sauna bathing because it increases the risk of hypotension, arrhythmia, and also sudden death hence it should be strictly avoided.

Turkish Baths and Health Spa
